Green Streets Free Shops – Monday 28th June to Friday 2nd July 2010 @ Brudenell Social Club
33 Queen’s Road, Headingley, LS6 1NY
Green Streets is a student-led project whose aim is to minimise the amount of reusable waste left behind by students at the end of the year. By coordinating with student halls and over 10,000 homes in the community, the project limits the environmental impact of the student changeover.
Green Streets collect any items which would otherwise be land-filled, such as bedding, clothing, crockery, pots, pans, books, CDs, DVDs, non-perishable food etc. The collected items are then re-distributed to charities, hostels and shelters. Free shops are held in Leeds University Union and in the local community throughout the year and for a month during the summer. We also run recycle, reduce, re-use events such as fashion re-making workshops.
Last year, Green Streets successfully diverted over twenty one tonnes of reusable items from landfill, much of which was given to local charities and hostels.
